Young people are the future…
Today is World Youth Skills Day. This day seeks to give visibility to young people, who have a fundamental role in the sustainable development of societies.

We are currently talk about digital, so I am going to talk about digital skills. The percentage of young people aged 16 to 19 with more than basic digital skills is 67% (source: Eurostat, 2019). To achieve the target set for 2025 (80%) or 2030 (90%), action plans have been developed, both at European level, as is the case of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027) which defines the European Commission vision for high quality, inclusive and accessible digital education in Europe, and at national level.

In Portugal, the Digital Transition Action Plan was launched at the beginning of 2020, which presents priority measures for the empowerment and digital inclusion of people, such as the recently launched EUSOUDIGITAL, which has the support of .PT. Specifically for young people, the Jovem mais Digital program is available, which aims to increase the employability of young people in digital areas through training sessions more adjusted to market needs, or the Escola Digital program, which includes the distribution of computers, but also teacher training and the digitization of textbooks.

One of the missions of .PT is also to contribute to the inclusion and digital skills of the Portuguese people and, therefore, it has been expanding its support for projects and initiatives in this area.

I highlight here the bet on young people. Initiatives such as Sitestar.pt, Apps for Good, NET Viva e Segura, Engenheiras por um dia or ENSICO, among many others, have the support of .PT and this is our contribution so that our young people have more skills and qualifications, and so they can enjoy what digital has to offer. It is also our contribution to a more inclusive society!
